Gaylord Method Black Belt writes book on Kajukenbo
By RAUL GARCIA
It’s been called the original mixed martial arts and the perfected art of street fighting. In 2007, the Gaylord Method of Kajukenbo was featured on Fight Quest, a Discovery Channel look at the different styles of martial arts from around the world.
Now a new book about Kajukenbo has karate-kicked its way into the annals of karate and mixed martial arts literature, and it was written by a Gaylord Method practitioner. It’s a must have for every martial artist’s book collection.
In the book, Kajukenbo 5th Degree Black Belt John Hojlo palm strikes his way through elaborating on Kajukenbo training, his experience within the Kajukenbo Gaylord Method, and brings fourth insights from leading grandmasters and practitioners.
Hojlo is a 5th degree black belt under Kajukenbo Grandmaster Ron Esteller of San Leandro, California. Hojlo currently lives and leads a Kajukenbo Gaylord Method School in Okayama, Japan.
“I’m proud of what the book is, and what it’s become. It’s a collection of ideas I’d had floating in my head for a long time, and I think it asks questions that people need to consider to keep Kajukenbo relevant for the future, and to help it evolve for the future, as it’s supposed to,” Hojlo said.
The book is currently available only on Amazon.
“In conversation they’ve (martial artists) said they enjoyed it,” Hojlo said. ” People tell me they totally connect with the ideas, and they tell me it got them thinking of things regarding their art…all the positive feedback from people tells me I must be doing something right.”
